Hey all!! So although this may be a post on How to Prevent Stretch Marks During Pregnancy please keep in mind the following:

  1. I am not a doctor or skincare specialist
  2. This is what worked for me, it may not work for you
  3. I still have 9 weeks of baby growing to do, so some marks could still pop up.
  4. If you do get stretch marks, IT’S OKAY!!!! you are having a baby and while I totally understand that marks can put a damper on your day, you have done something amazing by bringing a little bundle of joy into the world and those marks are well…..marks of honor :)

Whew! Now that we have gotten that out of the way Ill tell you everything I have been doing to keep my tummy smooth and mark free :) – And yes im hiding my belly button because its completely flat and weird lol.

Drink your H2O

This is a tip that many know but it’s not to be brushed over!! Hydrating your skin from the outside is great but keep in mind, unless you are derma rolling topical treatments can only go so far. Its great to drink tons of water and hydrate your skin from the inside out, its hard to tell how much this is helping but hey, you should be drinking a lot of water anyway so enjoy!!

Watch the Scale

Keep an eye on how fast you are gaining weight. Keep in mind this may not work out so well during the last couple months, your baby will be growing rapidly and no matter what you do marks may still appear. But overall, if you keep your weight gain at a nice and easy pace it should help fend off some of those marks!

Now I once had someone tell me “Just keep your belly moisturized, it doesn’t matter with what anything will do”. Well that just did not work for me, with my two previous pregnancies I did everything EXCEPT find the best topical treatment for me, which resulted in MARKS.

This time I have stayed away from lotions and butters (shea and the like) completely (sorry palmers), for me those simply did not work! I found out that my skin LOVES oil so I exfoliate with an oil based sugar scrub and I apply essential oils several times per day. You can click the image below for the exact oil I use.

Shop Healthy

Luckily for me this baby is a bit of a health nut so going to the store for “good” groceries has been relatively easy for me. I have been eating plenty of eggs, tomatoes, avocados, legumes. There are just too many benefits to list here but you can google the above items and see how awesome they are.

Make time for Fitness

Light exercises are great for blood circulation and rejuvenating your body and skin! I stick to yoga and my treadmill for now, I occasionally incorporate stretching as well. From what I have found online anything that promotes healthy circulation also helps keep your skin healthy and vibrant. Massage works great too some get some help rubbing that belly lol.

One new thing I did with this pregnancy that I never did with the other is Exfoliate. I was so paranoid that the exfoliating would be like scratching and I would end up with a ton of marks, thankfully this was not the case. I exfoliate SOFTLY with an oil based sugar scrub every few days or so. I try not to do it too much since I don’t want to irritate my skin. The most important things for me was 1. OIL BASED and 2. RUB SOFTLY

Lift your Belly

One last thing, if your belly feels heavy, give it a lift!! I try to wear my belly support as much as possible especially if I am going to be on my feet for an extended period of time. The belly support helps reduce the tension on my skin and I suppose helps a bit with the stretching process :) Click the image below to see the maternity belt I use.

So that’s it!! Those are my tips and what has worked for me. If you still get marks keep up this routine after pregnancy along with wrapping your belly to help get rid of them. You want to work on the marks while they are still red/purple. I do not know the full science behind it all but with my first two pregnancies I attacked my marks early and they faded very quickly!!

Hope this helps!!
